The biking man comes from Burundi, from an area around the “zoo” in the capital, Bujumbura, where artisans sell their work (the zoo by the way is terrifying; never go to a zoo in a developing country). It is made from scrap pieces of “pagne” which is the cloth used to make mainly women’s but also men’s clothing, and from other recycled materials such as rubber from tires, scrap wire etc. I liked the piece because it was made from all recycled materials. The artist also made animal sculptures out of bottle caps from soda (pop) bottles.
