Nepal bound – it’s official

Tlell and I are just thrilled to announce that we have finally confirmed our placements with a volunteer organization, Voluntary Service Overseas (http://www.vsocan.org/default.aspx) for 14-26 months, based out of Kathmandu, Nepal.   As many of you know we applied for placements with the organization last October and have been moving through the application, acceptance, training, and matching process over the past year.   It has been a long process but we are thrilled with our placements and are becoming ever more enchanted with the country of Nepal.

I accepted a placement as an IT Advisor for 5-6 HIV/AIDS organizations (General Welfare Pratisthan) and Tlell accepted a position working with a coalition of 20 NGO’s to lobby the Nepali government for more access to primary education, part of the UN Global Campaign for Education (http://www.campaignforeducation.org/about/about.html).

One of the important requirements of our placement is to undertake a small fund raising campaign to support the sending of volunteers.  We are so appreciative for any small, medium, or large contributions you would be willing to make towards our efforts.  If you are interested in donating, please visit:  http://www.vsocan.org/display.aspx?pid=499&cid=499.  Donations are accepted online and you are eligible for a tax receipt  (except if you are one of my wonderful American friends…sorry folks…no tax receipts for you).

In addition to fund raising we will be spending the upcoming months learning Nepali (the working language for both our placements, which is based on Sanskrit and Hindi…yikes), packing up our small apartment, and completing a rigorous round of vaccinations (shots, shots, and more shots).

If you would like to learn a bit more about Nepal do have a look at the following sites for more information:

We are looking forward to many visitors throughout our time in Nepal…you have 26 months to get your travel plans sorted out 🙂

Our tentative departure date is November 10th and I will be in Ontario for a bit in late September and October.

Namaste.

    Awesome dude! 🙂
    I am jealous.

And don’t forget you’re always welcome to swing by NZ for a visit, with free accommodation!

PS. How are you liking WordPress? Better than Moveable Type, right. Totally.

… looks different every time I visit.

Thanks B, oh yes, I keep changing the look of my blog as often as I change my underwear.

I am liking WP for many things, but I still hold a softspot for MT and will stick by it (you really can’t forget about your first CMS).
